Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Embedded) to develop software for embedded devices used in unmanned and robotic systems. You will design, code, test and debug system software for deployment on aircraft, payloads and other robotic platforms, and work across full lifecycle development.

Responsibilities include integration with sensors, prototypes, verification plans, software validation, and coordination with project teams. Occasional travel and field testing may be required.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 - 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Expertise in Python, C, C++11, C++ STL and/or OpenCL
  • Experience with Visual Studio, Eclipse or similar IDE and defect tracking tools
  • Experience with common protocols such as RS-485, RS-232, CAN, I2C, SPI, USB
  • Demonstrated mathematical and analytical skills
  • Occasional travel for testing equipment
  • Periods of development may require long irregular hours and field tests

Responsibilities

  • Writes and tests software to support integration of sensors and embedded processors into aircraft or robotic systems
  • Designs and implements software for prototypes and products using established AeroVironment tools and practices; ensure good configuration control and management of software
  • Assists in writing system requirements, system test plans, diagnostic tools, and validation testing of software; assists with hardware selection and recommend processing, memory and storage needs
  • Develops estimates and milestone dates for software development to fit timelines and budgets
  • Provides development updates and progress milestones to track plan adherence
  • Troubleshoots complex systems from a software perspective with hardware diagnostics; supports flight test operations
  • Supports transition of development software to production environments and to certification; participates in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Develops proof of concept capability demonstrations and supports design reviews
  • Works on complex issues requiring in-depth analysis of variables and judgements on methods and criteria
  • Performs other duties as assigned
