Job summary

AeroVironment's Embedded Software Engineering Internship offers hands-on experience designing, developing, and testing embedded software for unmanned aerial and robotic systems. You will work with experienced engineers on real projects and contribute to the development lifecycle from prototyping to validation.

This 12-week onsite program is open to students pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science, with at least a 3.0 GPA.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related engineering/computer science field.
• Basic knowledge of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
• Familiarity with C, C++, or Python.
• Understanding of low-level software concepts (memory, interrupts, drivers).
• Exposure to common hardware interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN).
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
• Good verbal and written communication; team collaboration is essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist in writing and testing embedded software for autopilots, sensors, radios, and other components.
• Develop software in C/C++ for real-time and bare-metal systems.
• Support integration of software with hardware and debug with lab equipment.
• Collaborate with electrical, systems, and mechanical engineers on cohesive development.
• Participate in peer reviews, documentation, and configuration management.
• Contribute to lab and field testing of embedded systems.
