Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a founding engineer in Compliance to identify automation opportunities across transaction monitoring and regulatory workflows. You will prototype solutions on Coinbase's AI platform, drive adoption, and own the automation roadmap in partnership with Compliance leadership.

You will work with engineering and Compliance teams to ensure auditable, regulator-ready outputs with human-in-the-loop controls and a strong emphasis on responsible AI use.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy environments.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications with guardrails and HIL design.
• Ability to translate complex workflows into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with transaction monitoring, sanctions screening and audit-ready data handling.
• Experience embedding with non-technical domain experts.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Compliance leadership to surface high-leverage automation opportunities.
• Prototype quickly on Coinbase's AI platform and guide build-vs-buy decisions.
• Own the Compliance automation roadmap with leadership and translate workflows into requirements.
• Ensure outputs are auditable, defensible to regulators, and have human-in-the-loop controls.
• Drive adoption through walkthroughs and feedback loops with Compliance teams.
