Job summary

Coinbase is building the future of compliant automation from the CTO's Office. As a founding engineer in Compliance, you will surface high-value automation opportunities, prototype AI-driven solutions, and translate complex regulatory workflows into actionable engineering work.

You will partner with Compliance leadership to define roadmaps, ensure auditability and human-in-the-loop controls, and drive adoption across teams through hands-on demos and iterative prototyping.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy environments.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, hallucination guardrails, and human-in-the-loop design.
• Proven ability to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate workflows into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with compliance and regulatory systems concepts: transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, regulatory filing workflows, case management, and audit-ready data handling.
• Familiarity with multi-agent orchestration concepts and agent system handoffs, escalation, and auditability.
• Experience in Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or embedded technical advisory in compliance-tech or financial services.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Compliance leadership and frontline teams to surface automation opportunities with the greatest business leverage.
• Prototype quickly using Coinbase's AI platform as the default foundation before recommending net-new builds.
• Own the Compliance automation roadmap in partnership with Compliance leadership, translating workflows into engineering requirements.
• Define build-vs-buy strategy for Compliance tooling and determine what to build, adopt, procure, or retire.
• Ensure automated outputs are traceable, auditable, and defensible to regulators with proper controls.
• Drive adoption through brown-bags, prototype walkthroughs, and feedback loops with Compliance teams.
