Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a founding engineer in Compliance, embedded with the Office of the CTO. You will identify high-value automation opportunities, prototype AI-enabled workflows, and drive adoption of AI tooling across Compliance, ensuring auditability and regulatory readiness.

You will collaborate with Compliance leadership to translate regulatory requirements into engineering constraints, shaping the automation roadmap and build-vs-buy decisions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy environments.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications with prompt engineering and human-in-the-loop design.
• Ability to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate workflows into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with compliance systems: transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, auditability.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Compliance leadership and frontline teams to surface automation opportunities with high business leverage.
• Prototype quickly using Coinbase's AI platform as the default foundation before building new tools.
• Own the Compliance automation roadmap with leadership, translating regulatory workflows into engineering requirements.
• Define build-vs-buy strategy for Compliance tooling and evaluate internal vs external solutions.
• Ensure all automated outputs are traceable, auditable, and defensible to regulators with proper controls.
• Drive adoption through brown-bags, prototype walkthroughs, and feedback loops within Compliance.
