Job summary

State of West Virginia is seeking an Economic Assistance Specialist to process applications and determine eligibility for SNAP, Medicaid and related programs across Ohio, Brooke, and Hancock Counties. You will schedule interviews, interview clients, determine eligibility, maintain a caseload, and refer clients to supportive services as needed.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, strong interviewing skills, and adherence to program guidelines.

Qualifications

• Training: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Substitution: Any combination of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience providing direct client services such as interviewing clients, customers or the public, and evaluating the data against established standards and guidelines may substitute for the required training on a year-for-year basis.
• OR: Full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience performing customer service, telemarketing, retail or clerical work may substitute for the required training on a year-for-year basis.
• OR: Successful completion of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university may substitute for the required training on a year-for-year basis. Every thirty (30) credit hours of education will equal one (1) year of training.
• OR: Experience in Economic Services work requiring program eligibility decisions may substitute for the required training at the rate of one (1) year of experience will equal (2) years of training.
• Special Requirement: A valid driver's license may be required.

Responsibilities

• Process applications and determine eligibility for a range of economic assistance programs (e.g., SNAP, Medicaid, Emergency Assistance/LIEAP, School Clothing Vouchers).
• Schedule telephone and face-to-face interviews with clients.
• Conduct personal interviews regarding financial, social, and other information.
• Maintain an up-to-date client caseload and refer clients to supportive services and agencies as needed.
• Refer for repayment of benefits issued erroneously, as required.
• Perform related work as required.
