Schindler Group in Chicago is seeking a Field Superintendent of Modernization to oversee elevator modernization projects, manage field technicians, and coordinate cross-functional teams to meet safety, schedule, and cost targets.

The role emphasizes leadership, project management, and collaboration with sales, engineering, and service teams to deliver high-quality results in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of technical leadership experience or elevator industry experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent in relevant work experience in the elevator industry or related field.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills; ability to manage sensitive employee relations with proven leadership skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office suite.
• Strong organizational skills and experience managing tradespeople.
• Flexibility to be on-call as needed.
• Adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
• Prior Project Management skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage field technicians, overseeing multiple projects to ensure adherence to schedule, budget, and safety standards.
• Coordinate project scheduling, material procurement, and field logistics to maintain smooth operations and timely project completion.
• Track project progress and labor allocation to maximize efficiency and profitability.
• Collaborate with sales, engineering, project management, and service teams to deliver high quality results.
• Manage project documentation including invoicing, change orders, and financial forecasting.
• Maintain positive relationships with union representatives and support staffing needs including hiring and disciplinary actions.
• Provide coaching, training, and support to technicians to build skills and improve team performance.
• Organize scheduling, material ordering, and coordination of inspections to optimize project workflows.
