Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. seeks an Electrical Project Engineer to design solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, develop plant layouts, select hardware, optimize performance, and lead electrical engineering on projects in the Power Division.

The role involves coordinating with the Project Lead and senior engineers, supervising interns and designers, and ensuring schedules, QA/QC, and collaboration across civil, geotechnical, and survey teams from our Minnetonka, MN office.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Engineering.
Knowledge of NEC and NESC.
Knowledge and proficiency in electrical power system modeling software.
Approximately 3–7 years of experience in electrical design for distribution, generation, or general electrical construction.
Ability to read and create construction drawings and specification packages.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills; able to write technical reports with minimal supervision.
Experience with project data management and communicating requirements to internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Lead electrical engineering portions of commercial and utility-scale solar.
Verify electrical engineering scope and coordinate change orders with the project manager.
Ensure electrical deliverables schedules are met.
Coordinate with civil, geotechnical/structural engineers, and surveyors.
Create construction documents and perform electrical calculations and studies.
Perform short circuit, load flow, and voltage drop analyses.
Coordinate with clients, utilities, and code enforcement officers.
QA/QC of design work by interns and staff engineers.
Mentor interns and junior staff.
