Job summary

Vertex is seeking an Electrical Forensic Engineer to investigate electrical system failures across residential, commercial, and industrial settings. You will conduct field inspections, analyze evidence, and prepare technical reports for clients, attorneys, and insurers.

This role blends engineering with investigative work, inviting curiosity, precision, and collaboration. Experience with NEC, NFPA, and IEEE standards is valued, along with strong writing and client-service skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or 5 years of related work experience and no degree.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct forensic investigations involving electrical system failures, fires, explosions, equipment damage, and power distribution issues.
  • Perform site inspections to document conditions, collect evidence, and evaluate electrical components and systems.
  • Analyze physical evidence, engineering data, testing results, and documentation to determine the cause and origin of failures.
  • Develop engineering opinions supported by technical analysis, applicable standards, and industry best practices.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and defensible technical reports summarizing investigative findings and conclusions.
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, maintenance records, incident reports, and other relevant documentation.
  • Perform engineering calculations and technical research to support findings and recommendations.
  • Assist with litigation support activities, including preparation of exhibits, case documentation, and expert analyses as required.
