Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation seeks entry-level engineers through the EDGE program to apply Civil Engineering knowledge in construction and project development. The role supports field inspections, documentation, and the progression to Architect Engineer I within the Construction discipline.

Candidates should have an ABET-accredited degree, be eligible for the FE exam, and pursue EIT designation within 12 months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related ABET-accredited program.
• Ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (F.E.) and obtain the EIT designation within 12 months of employment.
• Knowledge of highway construction principles and roadway design criteria.

Responsibilities

• Support construction field inspections and project documentation.
• Apply civil engineering knowledge to design and review transportation projects.
• Contribute to planning, budgeting, and residency operations tasks.
• Participate in safety, quality control, and environmental compliance activities.
• Engage in Roadway Design and Structure/Bridge activities as part of project development.
