Job summary

Slack is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Distributed Data Services team in a high-scale backend role. You will design, build, and maintain edge caching services that handle a significant portion of Slack's API traffic and ensure core functionality remains fast and reliable.

You will collaborate with peers to triage production issues, automate maintenance, and participate in on-call rotations to keep services resilient at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering or related field or equivalent training.
• 6+ years building large-scale systems professionally.
• Experience managing production infrastructure with reliability and uptime focus.
• Experience with reliable distributed systems and engineering trade-offs.
• Proven ability to analyze complex issues with deep knowledge of architecture.
• Experience writing unit tests, code reviews, and debugging.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, ship and maintain Edge caching services handling ~35% of Slack's API traffic.
• Collaborate with Engineering to triage bugs and fix production issues across the stack.
• Write code to automate maintenance and reduce manual interventions.
• Review code and mentor peers; participate in design discussions.
