Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC seeks an Emergency Department Access Representative to register patients in a fast-paced setting. You will collect demographics, verify insurance, and prepare patient accounts, ensuring accurate MRN and secure armbands.

The role requires proficiency in English, strong customer service, and solid data-entry skills. You will collaborate with ED staff to support admissions and discharge processes while handling sensitive information professionally.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• College courses in Business, Medical Office Administration, Health Care Administration, and/or Computer Technology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Registers ED patients in a fast-paced environment, creating patient accounts within 90 seconds of arrival.
• Queries EAD and enters accurate patient demographics to obtain MRN and account number.
• Places patient armbands after accounts are created to ensure patient safety.
• Obtains demographic, guarantor, and insurance information and documents it into the registration system.
• Obtains physician order to support services for observation or admission status.
• Performs insurance eligibility/benefit verification using an EDI transaction.
• Informs patient/guarantor of liabilities and collects co-pays, co-insurances, deductibles, and deposits at discharge.
• Maintains coverage of the work area and supports registration needs for clinical partners.
• Other duties as assigned.
