Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC seeks an ED Registration Specialist to support daily ED operations, register all patients, verify insurance, collect co-pays, and ensure accurate patient accounts.

Under supervision, you will create patient accounts within seconds of arrival, obtain demographics and insurance details, and provide courteous service in a busy emergency department environment. Experience in medical office or insurance is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• College courses in Business/Medical Office Administration preferred.
• NAHAM CHAA certification preferred.
• Medical terminology knowledge required within 90 days of initial employment.

Responsibilities

• Register emergency service patients in a fast-paced environment, creating patient accounts within 90 seconds of arrival.
• Query EAD and enter accurate patient demographics to obtain MRN and account numbers.
• Place patient identification armbands after accounts are created for patient safety.
• Obtain all demographic, guarantor, and insurance information and document in the system.
• Perform insurance eligibility/benefit verification and document results.
• Inform patient/guarantor of liabilities and collect co-pays/deductibles at discharge.
• Maintain data integrity by correcting errors and following up on missing information.
• Provide timely coverage of the work area to support clinical partners in registration needs.
• Assist with staff scheduling to ensure proper department coverage.

Register all patients in the adult and pediatric emergency departments. Completes the registration process for emergency patients and direct admits sent to the emergency department.
