Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Health’s Hoke Hospital in Raeford, NC is seeking an Emergency Department Access Representative to register patients quickly, verify demographics and insurance, and collect charges at discharge. The role focuses on accurate data entry, armband placement, and physician orders for OBS/Admit cases.

The position requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) with healthcare admin coursework preferred; strong English, customer service, and multitasking skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• College courses in Business, Medical Office Administration, Health Care Administration, and/or Computer Technology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Registers ED patients quickly and creates patient accounts within 90 seconds of arrival.
• Enter accurate demographics to obtain MRN and account number.
• Place patient identification armbands after accounts are created for safety.
• Gather demographic, guarantor, and insurance information and document in the registration system.
• For observation/admission, obtain physician orders to support services.
• Perform insurance eligibility/benefit verification using EDI and document in the system.
• Inform patients of liabilities and collect co-pays/deductibles at discharge.
• Maintain coverage of the work area to support registration needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
