The Beth Israel Lahey Health Patient Information Specialist supports the Emergency Department in Boston, providing exceptional service to patients, families, physicians and staff while ensuring accurate demographic, insurance and consent information is collected and recorded.

The role involves chart organization, ED registration, coordinating with Medical Records, triaging calls, and maintaining HIPAA compliance in a fast-paced, high-volume setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• 1–3 years related work experience required.
• Experience with computer systems including web-based applications and Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).

Responsibilities

• Organizes ED patient charts and prepares them for transport; coordinates with Medical Records to ensure a single, accurate medical record.
• Triages ED calls from outside providers and families; communicates with ED staff and uses paging systems.
• Collects and verifies patient information for registration and billing with meticulous accuracy.
• Ensures patients sign general consent and HIPAA statements and explains related regulations as needed.
• Scans EMS Run Sheets and creates registration packets for unregistered patients.
