Job summary

Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque is hiring for a Patient Access Advocate I in the Emergency Department. The role focuses on primary registration, insurance verification, and financial clearance at the time of service during 12-hour night shifts.

Strong customer service and knowledge of CMS guidelines are required. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, healthcare or customer service experience, and EPIC proficiency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in healthcare or customer service preferred.
• Completion of Patient Access Academy with 85%+ within 6 months.
• CHAA/CHAM or equivalent certification preferred.
• Basic understanding of insurance and billing codes.
• Familiarity with registration processes and healthcare basics.
• Strong keyboarding/data entry skills; Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• EPIC proficiency test with 85% score.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional patient experience using CARES, AIDET and EPE tools.
• Resolve complaints with de-escalation and escalate when needed.
• Perform patient registration including demographics, insurance verification and financial clearance.
• Document actions in the system of record and maintain audit trail.
• Educate patients on insurance benefits and financial responsibilities.
• Ensure accounts are financially cleared at time of service.
• Maintain knowledge of Medicare CMS guidelines and payer requirements.
• Maintain productivity and accuracy in daily work.
