Job summary

Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking a Driver & Identification Service Center Specialist to issue licenses, administer exams, verify eligibility, and process credentials with accuracy. The role blends customer service with public safety in a dynamic environment across office and roadway settings.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, with three years of clerical experience or equivalent education, plus background checks and-related certifications post-hire.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent), and experience equal to three years of full-time clerical or closely-related work.
• A total of three years of education and/or full-time experience (as described above).
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch with six months of full-time work as a Driver & Identification Service Center Associate.

Responsibilities

• Issuing driver’s licenses and identification documents with accuracy and professionalism.
• Administering and scoring driving examinations, including motorcycle, car, truck, passenger, and CDL tests.
• Applying driver eligibility, licensing rules, and REAL ID requirements to verify identity and qualification.
• Reviewing state and federal records to determine issuance decisions accurately.
• Completing vision and hearing screenings to meet safety standards.
• Capturing customer photos and signatures for official credentials.
• Serving as a primary point of contact for customer questions and inquiries.
