The City of Signal Hill accepts a P.O.S.T. Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) T-Score of 40 or higher, taken within 6 months of application. A copy of your PELLETB T-score must be submitted with your application.
Under supervision, the Police Dispatcher/Jailer receives calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance, dispatches units, maintains custody of inmates, and performs general support duties related to communication and records activities.
This role involves organizing tasks to meet deadlines, maintaining custody of inmates, and supporting police operations. Essential duties include:

Additional requirements include no felony convictions, completion of dispatch training, jail course, CPR, and passing probation.
Knowledge of legal provisions, law enforcement procedures, geography, office practices, and communication systems. Ability to perform work accurately, remain calm, operate dispatch systems, work flexible hours, interpret laws, organize tasks, and communicate effectively.
Position involves prolonged sitting, standing, computer use, lifting up to 25 pounds, and exposure to persons in custody. Accommodations may be provided for qualified individuals.
Must be available for all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. A background check, polygraph, fingerprinting, medical, and psychological evaluations are required. Employment is as a Disaster Service Worker and involves ongoing training and readiness for emergencies.
