Job description

The Director of Catering & Convention Services is responsible for overseeing the achievement of catering and food & beverage sales goals, aligned with the overall performance of the hotel. This role involves managing the catering and conference service teams effectively, servicing clients/groups, and maintaining contracted food and beverage minimums. The director collaborates with the Director of Sales and hotel leadership to meet revenue, planner satisfaction, and catering sales targets across one or more properties. Exempt employees are expected to work as necessary to fulfill their responsibilities, primarily performing administrative, executive, or professional tasks over 50% of the time, with discretion and independent judgment exercised similarly.

Responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • At least 6 years of progressive hotel catering sales experience preferred; or a 4-year college degree with at least 2 years of related experience; or a 2-year college degree with at least 4 years of related experience.
  • Creativity and knowledge of food and beverage/events preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required in the applicable state.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills for negotiation, persuasion, and influence with managerial personnel, guests, and clients.
  • Thorough experience in professional selling skills: opening, probing, supporting, closing.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic vision for sales deployment.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, especially Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Strong organizational and presentation skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse backgrounds, solve complex problems, and lead a productive sales team.
  • Advanced knowledge of sales, marketing, and hospitality principles and practices.
  • Ability to perform well under stress and maintain composure.
  • Understanding of financial data and basic arithmetic functions.
