Job summary

CesiumAstro, a leader in space communication systems, seeks a Director of Applications Engineering to lead a high-performing customer-facing technical team and serve as the primary interface between customers, Product, Engineering, Business Development, and program execution.

The role owns the Voice of the Customer within the product organization, ensuring customer needs and feedback are translated into actionable product requirements, roadmap priorities, documentation, tools, and improvements

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field; 11–15 years in applications engineering, systems engineering, product engineering, customer integration, or related fields.
• 5+ years of leadership or management experience in applications engineering, systems engineering, product engineering, or related technical professionals.
• Extensive experience directing customer integration and deployment activities involving complex hardware and software systems.
• Experience translating customer requirements, operational feedback, and field experience into product requirements, technical documentation, and tools.

Responsibilities

• Build, develop, and lead a high-performing customer-facing technical team with deep expertise in CesiumAstro products.
• Establish Applications Engineering as the primary technical interface for customers integrating and deploying standard and configurable products.
• Ensure customers have the technical guidance, documentation, tools, training, and support to integrate, test, and operate products.
• Capture customer needs and translate them into input for Product and Engineering.
• Partner with Product leadership to identify recurring needs and usability gaps influencing product roadmap and priorities.
• Maintain detailed knowledge of product hardware, software, interfaces, performance, and configuration through close collaboration with development teams.
• Collaborate with Architects, BD, and Product teams to apply products to customer needs and support proposals/demos.
• Support customers through integration, test, commissioning, and operation, including rapid diagnosis of anomalies.
• Own the strategy and quality of customer-facing technical content (manuals, notes, guides, architectures, examples, training).
• Identify recurring patterns and develop reference architectures and tools to simplify deployment across customers and missions.
• Establish escalation mechanisms for product issues and ensure lessons drive future releases.
• Coordinate with multiple teams to maintain continuity from customer need to solution development and deployment.
• Build a team capable of strong technical depth with clear customer communication.
