Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Direct Support Professional III to join the team at the El Paso State Supported Living Center. This role supports residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with morning, evening and night shifts on multiple homes.

The DSP III performs direct care, training, and supervision duties; documents daily activities and progress, and may lead a shift when the DSP IV Lead is not on duty. A state-owned vehicle is used for the role.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED, or 6 months of work experience.
• Six months of experience with individuals who have mental health/ID disabilities.
• Experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP).
• Experience implementing behavior programs for persons with intellectual developmental disabilities.
• Experience writing reports.

Responsibilities

• Attends work on a regular basis and may be assigned specific shift schedules, including rotating schedules, overtime, and weekends.
• Performs direct care and support services to individuals and implements habilitation, rehabilitation, behavior management, crisis intervention, and treatment programs.
• Uses active treatment to train skills like activities of daily living and personal care; documents progress and incidents.
• Provides guidance and mentorship to new DSPs; may serve as shift or team lead when required.
• Maintains safety and infection control in the living environment and reports significant changes in residents’ conditions.
