Job summary

The Kroger Co. in Chicago seeks a dependable team member to backup the department manager, overseeing the department in their absence and mastering SOPs including merchandising, scheduling, profitability, people development and customer service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required, 1+ years’ retail experience preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Friendly, approachable, and a team player.
• Good judgement and decision-making abilities.
• Strong math skills for discounts, proportions and percentages.
• Basic algebra and geometry for measurements and volumes.
• Ability to read and interpret documents (training manuals).
• Clear oral and written communication; ability to speak to groups.

Responsibilities

• Encourage teamwork and cooperative interactions with coworkers.
• Welcome, serve and assist customers to provide excellent service.
• Ensure proper staffing to address service levels and labor efficiency.
• Operate department equipment per company guidelines.
• Communicate with customers and respond to questions promptly.
• Follow opening/closing procedures per SOPs.
• Adhere to SOPs for storage and dating of products.
• Process price changes and in-store transfers in absence of manager.
• Remove and dispose of unsellable products.
• Follow merchandising guidelines for displays, signage, and packaging.
• Monitor product temperature in coolers/freezers for freshness.
• Oversee portion control to meet SOPs.
• Ensure receiving procedures are followed in manager’s absence.
• Assist with baking, glazing, topping, and thawing per SOPs.
• Stock products and ensure correct placement of stock.
• Follow all store policies and SOPs.
• Adhere to food safety and health regulations; report unsafe conditions.
• Maintain ability to work all shifts and be flexible to relocate.
• Physical duties include lifting 5–80 lbs and pushing/pulling up to 200–2000 lbs.
