Job summary

Cosentino’s in Kansas City is seeking an Assistant Deli Manager to lead the Deli team and ensure the department delivers the high standards customers expect.

Reporting to the Deli Manager, you will supervise staff, coach, hire, manage inventory, and uphold food safety and sanitation standards. This non-exempt, full-time role requires a food handling permit within 14 days and a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least six months in a deli or food service.

Qualifications

• A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
• Minimum of 6 months previous experience in a deli, bakery, restaurant or food service operations position is required.
• Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

• In the absence of the Deli Manager, supervise deli team activities in an effective, motivating and respectful manner.
• Promote a positive team atmosphere, cooperation, high morale and strong interpersonal communication.
• Assist in conducting interviews to hire quality deli staff.
• Provide coaching, corrective actions, and performance evaluations to improve team performance.
• Address employee relations issues with Deli Manager, Store Director or HR when needed.
• Practice inventory management by counting, verifying invoices, and inspecting deliveries.
• Procure items from suppliers and notify Deli Manager of inventory needs promptly.
• Implement rotation procedures to monitor product dates.
• Enforce quality control for all deli products.
• Promote ads and specials to increase department sales and profits.
• Promote products and offer samples to customers to boost sales.
• Answer customer questions accurately and courteously, knowing department locations.
• Meet or exceed productivity standards and handle customer complaints professionally.
• Comply with Cosentino’s Customer Service Standards and health regulations.
• Operate, clean, and maintain deli equipment safely.
• Keep the department clean, stocked, and well merchandised.
