Job summary

Amazon in Hayward, CA is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to lead retrofit projects for data centers. You will specify and commission BMS/EPMS, develop standards, and collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and construction teams to deliver integrated controls solutions.

You will work with AWS cloud data reporting and energy optimization initiatives, travel as needed, and provide engineering judgment for legacy systems with limited documentation.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Controls Engineering or 5+ years of equivalent experience in BMS/EPMS design and deployment.
• 2+ years of experience with data center or mission-critical facility control systems (BMS/EPMS).
• 2+ years of experience with HVAC systems, control programming concepts, and electrical distribution drawings.

Responsibilities

• Lead controls design and integration for retrofit projects across data centers, ensuring BMS/EPMS are specified and commissioned.
• Develop and maintain controls design standards, specifications, and SOWs for fleet remediation projects.
• Collaborate with mechanical/electrical engineers and construction teams to deliver integrated controls solutions.
• Serve as central technical authority for BMS/EPMS controls within FRE, managing scope across retrofit projects.
• Perform controls design reviews on retrofit packages and identify optimization opportunities.
• Coordinate with controls vendors and programmers on bid reviews, RFIs, and code reviews.
• Develop control sequences of operation, diagrams, and network architecture for retrofit applications.
• Interact with AWS cloud services to support data reporting, energy optimization, and operations intelligence.
• Anticipate roadblocks and provide escalation management to maintain timelines.
• Travel domestically and internationally as needed for project initiatives and commissioning activities.
• Provide engineering judgment for legacy systems with limited documentation.
