Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a Security Supervisor to plan, coordinate, and direct the actions of the security staff within a medium/maximum security facility. You will oversee security, custody, and inmate control across assigned units.

You will ensure routine checks, maintain OSHA standards, assist with inmate counts, and investigate complaints while arbitrating disputes between inmates and staff. This role requires certification and supervisory training upon hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and three years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including one year of supervisory experience.
• Certification by the SCDC Training Academy and completion of the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for supervisory experience year-for-year.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and direct security staff actions and oversee security, custody and inmate control in assigned units.
• Perform routine unit checks to ensure duties are performed properly and OSHA standards are met.
• Assist with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigate complaints and violations; arbitrate disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
