Job summary

State of South Carolina in Columbia seeks a Security Supervisor to plan and direct security staff, overseeing inmate custody in medium to maximum security facilities. You will conduct unit checks for safety and OSHA compliance, support inmate counts, and resolve disputes between inmates and staff.

Successful completion of eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training is required on hire. A high school diploma is required; a bachelor’s degree may substitute.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work with one year in a supervisory role.
• Certification by the SCDC training academy and completion of a basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and direct security staff to oversee inmate custody in assigned units of a medium/maximum security facility.
• Assume primary responsibility for security of buildings and public property.
• Conduct routine unit checks to ensure staff perform duties safely and OSHA standards are met.
• Assist with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigate complaints and arbitrate disputes among inmates and correctional staff.
