Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a security supervisor to plan, coordinate and direct security staff and oversee custody and control of inmates in a medium/maximum unit.

The role involves supervising security for all buildings, ensuring staff performance and OSHA compliance, and assisting with counts. Completion of SCDC Basic Training is required upon hire and within six months of entry.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and three years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work; supervisory experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree may substitute for supervisory/experience requirements.
• Must complete SCDC Basic Training and basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and direct security staff and oversee inmate custody and control.
• Own security for all buildings and public property within the unit.
• Perform routine checks to ensure staff duties and OSHA standards are met.
• Assist with inmate counts for accuracy and documentation.
• Investigate complaints, resolve disputes among inmates and staff.
