Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a Corrections Supervisor to plan, coordinate and direct the actions of security staff in a medium/maximum security facility. The role oversees security, custody and control of inmates and ensures OSHA standards are met across all buildings and public property.

The position requires a high school diploma with relevant experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for experience, and supervisory experience is preferred. Training via SCDC is mandatory upon hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience.
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
• Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmates counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
• Oversees security, custody and control of inmates in assigned unit(s) of a medium/maximum security facility.
