Job summary

Turner Construction Company is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety Leader to enforce site compliance on a single construction project within the Chicago Main division area. You will train teams on safe work practices and manage environmental/hazardous materials reports within regulatory requirements.

The role emphasizes safety leadership, program development, audits, and collaboration with project leadership to improve performance and reduce risk while ensuring adherence to EH&S

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related field with at least 4 years of safety experience.
• CHST certification required or within 2 years of appointment.
• OSHA 30-hour training completed; maintain First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certifications.
• Knowledgeable of Federal, State, and Local EH&S regulations.
• Working knowledge and consistent application of safety and environmental principles.
• Ability to identify known and potential safety exposures and lead corrective actions.
• Familiar with general construction operations.
• Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication and presentation abilities.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Analytical thinking, good judgment, and problem-solving.
• Travel required, access to reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Lead EH&S on a single construction project per HQ policy.
• Provide safety leadership and manage resources on the project.
• Assess safety practices, mitigate risks, and improve safety awareness.
• Communicate requirements to project leadership for adoption and adherence.
• Monitor safety trends and reduce incident rates toward zero citations.
• Develop site-specific training for management, employees, and subcontractors.
• Promote safe work practices and compliance with regulations and owner requirements.
• Maintain relationships with project staff and subcontractor safety reps.
• Develop and enforce the project Safety Program and policies.
• Identify unsafe actions and implement corrective actions per regulations.
• Create accountability for pre-planning with subcontractors.
• Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance.
• Review PTP quality for subcontractors.
• Hold preconstruction meetings to review safety program and risk plans.
• Develop safety action items and verify training.
• Conduct worker orientation and record participation.
• Collaborate to create safety reports, assess metrics, and recommend improvements.
• Ensure timely log of toolbox safety meetings.
• Conduct safety audits, issue reports, and drive resolutions.
• Other duties as assigned.
