Job summary

Layton Construction is seeking a Project Manager responsible for the overall planning, management, procurement, scheduling, and execution of work on assigned construction projects. You will drive project profitability, ensure quality and safety standards, and exceed owner expectations through predictable outcomes.

The role requires coordinating with the Superintendent, preparing estimates and budgets, developing the PMP, and leading the project team through pre-award to closeout.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management or related field, or the equivalent education and experience.
• Preferably at least 5 years experience working in commercial construction.
• Understands estimating concepts to verify bids, understand market rates, and to process change orders.
• Understands contractual language and how to protect the company while providing quality service.
• Understands building codes and other design requirements and has knowledge of plans and specifications.
• Strong teamwork and delegation skills; capable of presentations and communications.

Responsibilities

• Champions “The Layton Way” by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
• Ensures that “Constructing with Integrity” is delivered with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
• Works with the Superintendent to ensure successful project delivery and strengthen client relationships.
• Prepares estimates for the project and prepares project budget.
• Leads the project team in developing the PMP and conducts pre-award and pre-construction meetings.
• Participates in value engineering, subcontract negotiation, and obtaining permits.
• Prepares project schedule and milestones with the project superintendent.
• Manages procurement, cost, safety, quality, and schedule performance with the project team.
• Negotiates owner and subcontractor change orders and manages cost/profit impact.
• Develops monthly client pay requests and follows up on collections.
• Controls payments with the job cost accountant and participates in monthly project reviews.
• Manages final closeout procedures including as-built drawings and letters of completion.
• Interacts with Estimating to provide cost information for the estimating database.
• Maintains client relationships and conducts client meetings.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
