Job summary

CPKC is hiring for a Conductor role in the United States. You will work as part of a train crew, assisting in switching rail cars, moving trains between yards, and coordinating car movements.

The job requires vigilance for safety, the ability to work outdoors in all weather, and willingness to handle unscheduled shifts. Conductor progression opportunities include roles such as Yard Foreperson, Locomotive Engineer, or management, with comprehensive training provided.

Qualifications

• Requires physical stamina: walk up to 6 miles a day on uneven ground, lift up to 80 lbs.
• Willingness to work unscheduled shifts in a 24/7 environment.
• Long shifts up to 12 hours including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to report within two hours of call, after rest.
• Strong focus, detail orientation and multitasking ability.
• Clear and concise radio communications.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather for long periods.
• Must be 18+ and have a high school diploma and valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Work in train or yard service depending on seniority.
• Follow train routes and movements as instructed.
• Coordinate switching of cars, including coupling/uncoupling and lifting out coupling device.
• Interpret and relay signals affecting train movement.
• Signal crew using signals or radio for engine movement commands.
• Follow GCOR and operating rules and bulletins.
