Job summary

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) is hiring for a Conductor position at its St. Paul, Minnesota location. The role involves working within a union framework and performing train and yard movements with emphasis on safety and reliability.

Contributors will switch cars, observe signals, and coordinate with crew while adhering to GCOR and operating rules. The job requires endurance, flexibility for long shifts, and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Must be able to perform physically demanding work, including walking up to 6 miles a day
• Willingness to work unscheduled shift work in a 24/7 environment
• Able to work up to 12 hour shifts including days, evenings, overnight, weekends and holidays
• Ability to report to work within a 2 hour call window
• Excellent focus with strong multitasking and communication skills
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Must understand safety instructions and operating rules in English
• Must be at least 18 years old
• High school diploma or GED required

Responsibilities

• Work in either train or yard service depending on seniority
• Carry out instructions detailing a train's route and movements
• Coordinate switching of cars and lifting out coupling device
• Observe signals and relay information affecting movement of trains
• Signal crew members for movement using signals or radio
• Follow GCOR, general orders and bulletins
• Provide flag protection and relay signals in emergencies
• Move on and off moving or stationary equipment
• Fill out forms like train orders and switch lists
• Handle emergencies and operate fire extinguishers including first aid
