Qualifications

• Must be able to perform physically demanding work (walking up to 6 miles/day, lifting up to 80 pounds).
• Willingness to work unscheduled shift in a 24/7 environment.
• 12 hour shifts including days, evenings, overnight, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to report to work within a 2 hour call window.
• Excellent focus and multitasking abilities.
• Strong communication skills, including radio.
• Outdoor work in all weather conditions for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Work in either train or yard service depending on seniority.
• Carry out instructions detailing a train’s route and movements.
• Coordinate switching of cars, including coupling/uncoupling and lifting out coupling device.
• Interpret and relay signals affecting train movement.
• Signal crew members via signals or radio to manage train movements.
• Follow GCOR, general orders and bulletins.
• Provide flag protection and relay signals in emergencies.
• Move on/off moving or stationary equipment.
• Fill out train orders and switch lists, prepare reports.
• Handle emergencies and operate fire extinguishers; apply first aid as needed.
