MU Health Care is seeking a compassionate Financial Counseling professional to help patients navigate healthcare costs, provide price estimates, and guide them through insurance and financial assistance programs across the MU Health Care system.

The role is full-time, on-site, Monday–Friday, in the Financial Counseling department. It offers base pay with related benefits and an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patients’ access to care in mid-Missouri.

Qualifications

• Two years of college or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in healthcare, finance, patient accounts, social services, or financial assistance programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide price estimates for potential or scheduled services to patients.
• Screen and enroll patients in applicable state and federal health insurance plans and assistance programs (e.g., Missouri Medicaid).
• Determine patient liability using systems and clinical staff to advise on financial obligations for care.
• Interview patients at bedside and by phone for admissions and support across the health system.
• Inform patients about MU Health’s Financial Assistance program and screen/approve applications as appropriate.
• Maintain current knowledge of Missouri Medicaid programs and qualifiers.
• Coordinate with outside agencies and internal departments for financial support.
• Complete unit/department tasks as outlined in documents.
