Job summary

IU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to deliver compassionate bedside care in a fast-paced hospital setting. Responsibilities include assisting with meals, mobility, bathing, and linen changes, while supporting the bedside RN with vital signs and safety monitoring.

Requirements include BLS certification (AHA) or completion of the IU Health PCA program, strong communication, infection control knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or completion of the IU Health PCA education program
• Requires knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patients served
• Requires up to date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities
• Requires proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills
• Requires the ability to remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Requires ability to read and perform basic math
• Requires ability to organize tasks and attend to details
• Requires knowledge of infection control principles

Responsibilities

• Provide bedside care by assisting patients with meals, hydration, walking, baths, and linen changes
• Obtain vital signs and report abnormalities or changes to the RN or charge nurse
• Utilize safety measures (gait belts, bed/chair alarms) and stay within arm's reach during movement
• Support patients in maintaining comfort and safety and contribute to a positive patient experience
