Job summary

The City of Irving is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to perform field inspections, respond to complaints, and pursue voluntary compliance with property standards. You will prepare cases for the Building and Standards Commission and testify as needed, while supporting the Commercial Property Investigations team on complex matters.

A high school diploma or GED with two years of related experience is required, plus a Texas C.E.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED and two years of experience in code enforcement or building inspection.
• Current Code Enforcement Officer’s License issued by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
• ICC Certification – either International Property Maintenance Code or International Residential Building Inspector.
• Valid Texas driver’s license, or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections to identify code violations and ensure compliance with property standards.
• Respond to citizen complaints and work toward voluntary compliance before escalation.
• Work with property owners and managers to obtain voluntary compliance.
• Prepare Building and Standards cases for Commission presentation.
• Monitor and document compliance with Commission orders and provide testimony when required.
• Support the Commercial Property Investigations team and handle elevated or complex cases.

Job description

Duties include conducting field inspections of properties to identify potential code violations and ensure compliance with applicable property standards; responding to citizen complaints and work to resolve property-related concerns; working directly with property owners and managers to obtain voluntary compliance before escalation to a Building and Standards Commission case becomes necessary; helping connect homeowners who may lack the resources to make required repairs with available community resources and assistance programs; preparing Building and Standards cases for presentation to the Commission; monitoring and documenting compliance with Commission orders; providing testimony in court or before the Building and Standards Commission when required; providing support to the Commercial Property Investigations team; and managing elevated or complex cases assigned by the Director or Manager. A high school diploma or GED and two years of experience in code enforcement or building inspection or equivalent combination of education and experience required; current Code Enforcement Officer’s License issued by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation and International Code Council Certification – either International Property Maintenance Code or International Residential Building Inspector and a valid Texas driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one, also required.A résumé must be submitted withtheapplication.

PAY GRADE GG16 / FULL PAY RANGE $24.24 - $34.18 PER HOUR
