Job summary

The City of Irving seeks a Crime Scene Investigator to support the Police Department with documentation, collection, and analysis of physical evidence from crime scenes. You will assist sworn personnel, photograph and sketch scenes, and ensure chain-of-custody integrity while preparing comprehensive reports.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in forensic science or related field; one year of experience is beneficial.

• Assist with lab-based forensic processing and evidence storage; testify in court as needed.
• Support public education and departmental outreach as required.

Job description

Duties include providing technical support in the documentation, collection, preservation, and analysis of physical evidence from crime scenes; assisting sworn personnel by applying scientific methods and forensic standards to support investigations and ensure evidentiary integrity; photographing, sketching, and digitally recording scene details; processing evidence for latent prints, biological material, and trace elements; maintaining accurate chain-of-custody records; preparing detailed reports and submitting findings to investigators; assisting with lab-based forensic processing and evidence storage; testifying in court regarding evidence collection and analysis; and assisting with public education and departmental outreach as needed. The work schedule requires flexibility and may involve shift work ranging from working days, evenings, weekdays, weekends, and / or holidays. A Bachelor’s degree in forensic science, biology, chemistry, criminal justice, or a related science field required. One year of crime scene investigation or forensic analysis beneficial. Must be able to obtain a crime scene certification (IAI or equivalent) within 12 monthsof meeting IAI requirements for CSI certification. Hours vary and night and weekend hours are sometimes required. A résumé must be submitted with application.

PAY GRADE GG20 / FULL PAY RANGE $29.47 - $41.52 PER HOUR
