Job summary

Husch Blackwell LLP is seeking a Data Engineering Manager to lead the design and build-out of the firm’s cloud-based data platform, ensuring high-quality data for analytics, reporting, applications, and AI.

You will architect core systems, promote best practices, and oversee data acquisition, consolidation, and organization. This role requires strong leadership and collaboration with multiple stakeholders across Data Science & AI and IT teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or related field; graduate degree preferred.
• 3–5 years of experience leading data engineering or related teams, with setting direction and priorities.
• Experience managing budgets and cost-conscious decisions about tools and services.
• Strong understanding of data ingestion, consolidation, transformation, and analytics support.
• Extensive experience with data management, performance, reliability, and scalability.

Responsibilities

• Supervise all Data Engineering staff and foster team growth.
• Delegate tasks to ensure workload balance and project efficiency.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback.
• Maintain data platform standards for code quality, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Design, implement, and maintain data pipelines from core systems and external sources.
• Ensure scalable, reliable data engineering solutions with available capacity.
• Collaborate with Data Science & AI, Information Design, IT Operations, and business leaders to translate needs into requirements.
• Lead planning, deployment, and management of data engineering initiatives and projects.
• Document scope, timelines, risks, dependencies, and key decisions.
• Maintain relationships with technology vendors supporting the data platform.
