Qualifications

• GS-04 requires six months general experience plus six months specialized medical laboratory support work.
• Education options include an associate degree with lab assistant training or a related one-year program.
• GS-05 requires one year of specialized experience or a bachelor’s degree with related subjects.
• GS-07 requires growing levels of specialized experience or related graduate education.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and blood banking.
• Evaluate test results, troubleshoot or repeat procedures to ensure accuracy.
• Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment; prepare reagents and culture media; monitor QC.
• Collect and process patient specimens; track in systems and prepare for referral testing.
• Validate and document results; communicate findings to healthcare providers; support QA and accreditation per CAP/CLIA and safety.
