Qualifications

• To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position.
• Specialized work experience across CLIA-waived testing, specimen collection and handling, and laboratory reporting is expected at higher GS levels.
• Education with chemistry/biological sciences or related laboratory training is required or strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical laboratory tests across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and blood banking.
• Evaluate results, troubleshoot, repeat procedures, and ensure accuracy of laboratory findings.
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments; prepare reagents and culture media; monitor quality control.
• Collect and process patient specimens; accession and track specimens in laboratory systems; prepare specimens for referral testing.
• Support quality assurance and accreditation activities in compliance with CAP, CLIA, and safety requirements.

Education

Associate degree program with second year training in a certified laboratory assistant program

One year of study in chemistry and/or biological sciences plus a full-time medical or clinical laboratory assistant training program

Two years of study with at least twelve semester hours in chemistry and/or biological sciences related to the position

Bachelor's degree with a major or at least twenty-four semester hours in related subjects

Combination of education and experience

Graduate education directly related to the work of the position
