Qualifications

• Alternative education routes include associate degree with certified laboratory assistant program.
• Other paths include one year of study with chemistry/biological sciences and lab training.
• GS-5/GS-6/GS-7 describe increasing specialized laboratory duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and blood banking.
• Evaluate test results and troubleshoot to ensure accuracy.
• Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment; prepare reagents, stains, and culture media.
• Collect and process patient specimens and track in lab systems.
• Validate and document results; communicate with healthcare providers; support quality assurance and compliance.
