Job summary

University of Wisconsin—La Crosse is seeking an Academic Technology Support Specialist to assist, consult, acquire, and implement technology-based learning tools for classrooms, online education, and instructional applications. You will support faculty and staff, install and maintain AV equipment, and train users on instructional tech.

The role emphasizes strong customer service, effective communication, and collaboration with ITS staff.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a technology-related field, or equivalent work experience.
• At least two years of experience in information technology/educational media.
• Experience supporting classroom presentation technology and AV control systems (e.g., Q-SYS, Extron).
• Experience with learning technology solutions and Microsoft Office/Office 365 applications.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, and listening skills.
• Experience creating end-user support documentation.
• Excellent oral and written communication and professional customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with coworkers, vendors, and constituents.
• Experience working with Windows and Macintosh computer systems.

Responsibilities

• Project & Vendor Coordination: Leads classroom technology upgrade projects, technology rollouts, and summer refresh projects.
• Classroom & Instructional Technology Support: Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains classroom AV equipment and platforms.
• Peer Mentoring: Provides peer-level guidance and onboarding support for new staff.
• Asset & Equipment Management: Maintains records of classroom equipment and informs data-driven planning.
• Faculty Training & Consultation: Provides training and consultation on instructional technology; communicates clearly with users.
• Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Creates user guides and quick reference materials; shares solutions across ATS team.
