Job summary

Schnabel is seeking a temporary Civil Engineering Intern in Lexington, KY to support growing geotechnical and civil projects. The internship focuses on applying professional principles to real problems under senior engineers, centered on broadening practical knowledge from May through August 2027.

Responsibilities include geotechnical investigations, wall and excavation design, construction plans, and earthquake engineering analyses, with some travel and field work.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering Bachelor’s program.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with direction as part of a team.
• Willingness to perform a variety of tasks including office and field work.
• Desire and willingness to work outdoors; ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in geotechnical investigations and analyses, retaining wall/excavation support design, hydrology and hydraulic studies; and reinforced concrete design.
• Preparing construction plans.
• Supporting advanced earthquake engineering analyses.
• Performing construction observation and materials testing.
• Some travel may be required
