Job summary

UNC Health Medical Group in Lumberton, NC seeks a Certified Medical Assistant I to provide routine clinical and administrative support in an outpatient clinic. You will work under supervision of a provider and manager to support patient care and clinic operations.

Responsibilities include rooming patients, collecting data, assisting with procedures, phlebotomy, basic tests, and patient education, while maintaining exam rooms and coordinating appointments.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Medical Assisting program (CAAHEP/ABHES preferred).
• Medical Assistant certification by AAMA/AMT/CCMA/NCMA/NRCMA.
• Basic Life Support certification from AHA or ARC required.
• Demonstrated effective communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Performs rooming/intake with vital signs, height/weight, and reason for visit.
• Collects patient data including medical/social history.
• Reviews medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
• Assists provider during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
• Collects specimens and performs phlebotomy.
• Administers medications under provider direction.
• Performs tests such as EKG and eye exams under provider direction.
• Ensures exam/treatment rooms are stocked and ready for use.
• Provides patient with after-visit, follow-up, or self-care instructions.
• Assists in patient registration, check in/out, scheduling tests and referrals.
• Answers clinic calls and assists in-basket under supervision.
• Assists in emergency situations as directed.
