Job summary

UNC Health Care is seeking a Medical Assistant I, Certified to provide routine clinical and administrative support in an outpatient clinic. The role works under provider supervision for patient care and under management for non-clinical duties.

Responsibilities include rooming patients, collecting vitals, assisting with treatments, performing phlebotomy, and managing supplies. Certification from AAMA/AMT/CCMA/NRCMA/NCMA and BLS are required or strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a team and with providers.
• Proficiency using electronic medical records (EMR).
• Completion of a Medical Assisting program is strongly preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Room and intake: collect vitals, height, weight, and visit reason.
• Gather medical and social history; review medications and allergies.
• Assist provider during procedures and treatments; collect specimens; phlebotomy.
• Administer medications under supervision; perform basic tests (EKG, eye exams).
• Prepare and stock exam rooms; ensure supplies and forms are ready.
