Job summary

UNC Health in Lumberton, NC, is seeking a Medical Assistant I, Certified to provide routine clinical and administrative support in an outpatient clinic. The role operates under clinical supervision of the provider and under the manager for non-clinical tasks.

Responsibilities include rooming patients with vitals, collecting data, reviewing medications, assisting with procedures, phlebotomy, EKGs, and patient education. Strong communication and teamwork are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Requires Medical Assistant certification from AAMA/AMT/CCMA/NRCMA/NCMA or equivalent.
• Completion of a Medical Assisting program is strongly preferred but not required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or ARC required.
• Experience as a medical assistant or externship preferred.
• Ability to use a computer to document information into the EMR.

Responsibilities

• Room patients, record vitals, height, weight and reason for visit.
• Collect medical and social history from patient and family.
• Review current medications and allergies; manage preferred pharmacy.
• Assist provider during treatments and procedures as directed.
• Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy; administer medications per provider.
• Perform tests such as EKG under provider supervision.
• Ensure exam rooms have supplies and educational materials.
• Assist with patient registration, check-in/out, scheduling, and referrals.
