Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a Medical Assistant I, Certified to provide routine clinical and administrative support in an outpatient clinic. The MA works under clinician supervision for patient care and under a manager for non-clinical tasks.

Responsibilities include rooming patients, collecting health data, assisting with procedures, drawing blood, performing basic tests, and ensuring rooms are stocked. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES preferred but not required.
• Medical Assistant certification by AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA.
• Basic Life Support certification from AHA or ARC.
• Prior MA or MA externship experience preferred.
• Ability to perform essential functions and demonstrate effective communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Rooming and intake including vital signs and patient data.
• Collecting patient and family data including medical/social history.
• Reviewing medication lists, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
• Assist providers during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
• Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
• Administer medications under provider direction.
• Perform tests (e.g., EKG, eye exams) under supervision.
• Ensure exam rooms are stocked and prepared for visits.
• Provide post-visit instructions and educational materials.
• Assist with registration, check-in/out, and scheduling/tests/referrals.
• Answer clinic calls and triage as directed.
• Assist in emergencies as directed.
