Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a professional truck driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers, supporting the selling process. The role requires a Class A CDL with double/triple endorsements and hazmat, and a minimum of one year of recent driving experience or completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements. Automatic transmission CDL restriction allowed.
• Must possess one (1) year experience within most recent three (3) years or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations
• Long combination vehicles (LCV) qualifications apply in AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD and UT
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to lift/carry up to 100 pounds several times a week
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
• Ability to follow instructions
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles (and triples where applicable).
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and dollies to/from tractor/trailer.
• Freight handling using forklift, pallet jack and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
• Collect charges for freight and maintain documentation.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays or problems.
• Communicate with customers to determine pickup/delivery needs and solicit additional business.
• Provide excellent internal and external customer service.
• Ask for additional business and generate sales leads.
• May perform chaining of vehicle tires.
• May perform duties of road driver or dock employee as needed.
• Comply with laws and company policies, perform other duties as required.
