CDL Route Driver - Freight & Customer Service

Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a professional Driver who will pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers while supporting the selling process. The role requires operating tractor-trailer combinations, performing pre-trip inspections, and ensuring safe, compliant transport.

Applicants must hold a Class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements, have 1 year experience or complete FedEx Freight Driver Development Course, and meet DOT regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements.
• 1 year experience within last 3 years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Must possess acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under FMC regulations.
• Must meet LCV qualifications in listed states.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 100 pounds several times a week.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer with doubles/triples or straight trucks.
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and dollies.
• Handle freight with forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
• Collect payments for freight charges when required.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays or issues.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs and solicit additional business.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Provide leads to sales for potential new opportunities.
• May perform tire chaining; may perform road driver/dock duties as needed.
• Comply with laws and company policies; perform other duties.
