Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is hiring a driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations between service centers and turn-points. Duties include pre/post-trip inspections, log maintenance, and cargo handling with potential forklift use.

Night and long-distance routes may apply, with emphasis on safety and DOT compliance. Ideal candidates hold a CDL/CLP, pass MVR checks, and can meet physical requirements; strong communication and independent work capability are essential.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR Part 383/391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers requiring ~100 pounds lift several times daily.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Maintain accurate daily logs.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch and follow instructions regarding delays, arrivals, or equipment issues.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding requirements as applicable.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Where operationally necessary, perform duties of a city driver or freight handler.
• Operate freight handling equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck) as required.
• Chain vehicle tires; comply with laws/regulations and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
